Small Biz Spotlight- Geez Louise O.o

Each month we  feature one amazing business to help us all meet new people, build relationships, and support each other in the small business community! This month’s feature is from a shop that specializes in embroidery and sewing. So, without further ado, I introduce to you…

Lisa Martin of Geez Louise O.o

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I live in small town USA where everyone knows one another. I love to craft and learn new things. I sew, machine embroider, paint, etc. My husband and I have been together for 20 years and have 3 wonderful children. Our oldest starts college this fall. Our middle child and only girl loves to craft like her momma. Our youngest plays soccer for AYSO and keeps us hopping! Life is about as great as it can be!

When did you open your business and what inspired you to start it?

January 2016- I was encouraged from some of my local friends to sell online so I went for it. I have always loved to craft and make things so why not. I love learning how to make new stuff so this was a perfect fit!

Tell a little bit about your business.

Geez Louise was once named Lil’ Louise’s. The Louise part is named after my daughter, grandmother, and aunt. At first I made baby items but have since broadened my target audience so Geez Louise was just fitting considering all the different items I make… lol. Mostly Geez Louise O.o is embroidery and sewing but it also includes my mother in laws crocheted items and bows that she makes.

What do you enjoy most about running your business?

Mostly I enjoy making the items for others. Just knowing that my handmade item has brightened someone’s day is the best feeling ever!

What goals do you have for your business over the next year?

Over the next year I would love to be working outside of my home. I do not want to go far but rather have a she shed on my property where locals can pick up their orders, place orders, and see other items I have made.

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting a new business/shop?

Be persistent and don’t give up. It takes time. Don’t be afraid to ask questions to other shops about how they got their start as well.
