Each month we feature amazing small businesses to help us all meet new people, build relationships, and support each other in the small business community! This week’s feature is from a shop that creates adorable one of a kind sock animals, amigurumis, and fabric creations! So, without further ado, I introduce to you…
Kelly Kiser of Kiser Krafts Handmade
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
Hi! I am Kelly, Christian wife and mother of two, who suffers from amnesia and crafts to help my memory remember. I am so addicted to socks that they tell me what animal they wish to be. My shop is filled with ecofriendly, hand sewn plush sock animal toys, Fantastic Fabric creations, Adorable Amigurumi, and hand created home decor items (hand embroidered or crochet). Each item is one of a kind and unique in its entirety.
When did you open your business and what inspired you to start it?
It opened November 5, 2012 because I dreamed to stay home with my children. Kiser Krafts Handmade helps me put food on the table occasionally, is making it possible for me to stay home to care for my family. Also, it helps with the underlying need to craft for my memory troubles. I was/am going to create no matter what, I might as well make it work to help feed my family, and remove the excess of the creations in my house.
Tell a little bit about your business.
Kiser Krafts Handmade is a shop full of ecofriendly, one of a kind creations. I rescue and reuse as many supplies/materials as I can making the footprint on our beautiful a small one. Each sock animal is hand sewn and designed by me, every embroidered hoop is hand stitched by me, many, if not all of my amigurumi creations are done without a pattern, and each cloth doll is machine sewn and care is given to all the details. And the BIG news is I moved my little shop to my blog!! I am so happy and excited about the MOVE! It is sweet to have everything I do on the net in one convenient spot.
What do you enjoy most about running your business?
Besides staying home to care for my kiddos, I would have to say the people I meet from around the world. I love building my online community! There are so many amazing, talented, and wonderful people out there. I love meeting new people.
What goals do you have for your business over the next year?
Goals currently change each week based upon the children’s school schedule. ☺ This year Family is first. So, I stick what goals in where I can. Main goals have already been accomplished: moving shop, hitting 50 sales within old shop location before moving, and completing 2 new crochet patterns. Now, goals generally fluctuate through making and listing new creations and keeping up with blog posts.
Some final words from Kelly:
I am super excited about all the NEW changes to my little shop and I hope you are too! And remember, we do not live this life alone. Build yourself a “tribe” of encouraging people around you. When times get hard, they will help pull you through. ☺
