Small Biz Spotlight- Pinecone Grove

Each month we  feature one amazing business to help us all meet new people, build relationships, and support each other in the small business community! This month’s feature is from an Eco-friendly shop and Expedition Outfitter! So, without further ado, I introduce to you…

Ash_and_EC_Behind_the_BrandTell us a little bit about yourself:

My name is Ashley. I’m a mom to a four-year-old explorer and the owner of expedition outfitter, Pinecone Grove.

When did you open your business and what inspired you to start it?

I opened Pinecone Grove in 2013. At the time I was really excited about fall and creating a ton of autumn things I decided to give selling a try. Since then, Pinecone Grove has evolved from an artistic hobby to an eco friendly business.

Tell a little bit about your business:

My brand encourages kids and their parents to explore, learn, and preserve Nature’s wildlife. My goal in the shop is to provide customers with tools they’ll love to take with them on their wildlife expeditions, indoors or out. All my products are packaged with recycled materials and my business card is a custom stamp I apply directly to my packaging and thank you notes.

What do you enjoy most about running your business?image_original

Field research. I love getting outside with my son and exploring nature first-hand. It is my favorite part of the job. Of course, creating art comes in very close second.

What goals do you have for your business over the next year?

Next year I’d like to add some embroidered iron-on patches to our product line. I’ve been looking into different businesses to find something eco-friendly. I’m still searching, so if you happen to know someone who might fit with my shop, please let me know.

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting a new business/shop?

Start at the end. You’re more likely to succeed when you know where you are going. Before you open your shop, ask yourself: Who is my Dream Client? Where do they shop? How can I be similar and set apart from those shops? Why do I want to open this business? When will I feel my business is a success?  What must I do to get my business to that point?
After you’ve researched and answered those questions, you’ll be ready to give your brand a name and style.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I’m currently accepting December applications for Pinecone Grove’s Eco Gift Bag Program. The program invites small businesses to include samples of their products in our customer’s gift bags. It’s a great way to get your product to potential clients. The participation fee is $1. If you’re interested stop by my blog for details.
